    Dodge 3.0 diesel

Does anyone have one and not like it? I’m going to order a 1500 this afternoon and leaning towards it with the 355 rearend.

I have a 2016 and I've been very happy with it.

Pretty sure it comes standard 3.21 from factory, or you can order with 3.92. I had a wrangler with the same engine. Great fuel mileage and great towing. You will be happy.

My BIL and his FIL both had them. They really liked them.

You are correct. Standard is the 321. Plenty of towing power without sucking the tank dry with that rear end? I currently have the 5.7 hemi with 321 gears and it will pull great but I get about 5-6 mph with anything heavy like a boat. Hence my thought to switch over to the diesel.

Ok....I have to ask. Why did you choose a diesel over a gasser for a 1/2 ton. They cost more plus the diesel is higher also. I have a 03 dodge with a 5.9 I have been driving for 18+ years and will be trading in a few years. Don`t need a 3/4 ton any longer and figured I`d get a 1/2 ton gasser and save on the cost plus the fuel.

I’m debating this truck as well. Or the TRX. I LOVE the look of the Trx. If they’d sell that body with the 3.0, that’s what I’d buy. But a loaded limited with 3.0 is pushing 74k, and you can get a decently equipped TRX for just 10k more.

Id like the 3.0 Cummins in GMs more. Cousin getting great mileage out of it. He also have the Italian one in his Jeep truck.

15/18 on fuel economy on the 5.7 hemi vs 24/30 on the 3.0.

This is the exact thing I did in 2016. The few times I do pull something I just wasnt real happy with the 5.7 and the 321 gears. My other option would be the 392 gears but Im not sure that is a great solution either. As far as cost goes, most of the up front cost will be recouped in resale down the road. Im not as much concerned with the price as I am about the performance over the next 5-6 years which is how long I normally keep a truck.

That sounds like a solid/thought out reason. I had thought about getting a GMC 5.3, which is what I had previously, but read about issues with that motor. Sure enough, my son has a 2018 Chevy 1/2 ton truck with the 5.3 that his company supplies him and it started making a tapping sound about a month ago at about the 100,000 mile mark. I still have a few years to look at my options. Thanks

I got 12-14 pulling my 22' Triton center console on the hwy.

Man that is perfect, thanks for the real world example. Ive done a complete 180 on this decision in a week's time.

Here are some real world towing examples...

                            14' cargo trailer: 11-12 MPG
                            22' Center console: 12-14 MPG
                            12' S/A trailer with Polaris Ranger: 14-16MPG

                            Unloaded driving 70-75: 26-28MPG

These are real numbers that I have seen with mine over the past couple of years.

I have to add DEF maybe every 3 months (very efficient) and with the increased fuel mileage I can justify the extra costs of fuel.

Don't do it. No balls at all, sucks to pull anything with it. I owned a 2017 and just got rid of it to an f250.
