picked up one of these over the summer. The 50e had been one of my favorite frames prior to this. Absolutely love how feel/fit of the mgl 70k. It will get far more use than my other curados moving forward.
It's a beast and compact! Love that little rascal. Well worth the coin.
Lew's Custom Speed Spools - I lean on the Inshore/Saltwater series (salt and fresh with salt specific protection).
I have the Pro BB1 Speedspool (fresh bass specific) and the first and second generation Inshore Speedspools.
I have every Shimano Curado made - including the first generation greenies with Superfree bearings.
All of them have ceramic bearing upgrades - the stock bearings are solid but I like ceramic for the anti rust qualities and casting oils (viscosities change the feel of these casting machines).
I build my own custom rods-around the reel and line and lure class each stick/reel combo is used for, getting the most out of Shimanos and Lews as I can.
Deep clean the bearings with a heated sonic cleaner - Rocket Fuel reel oils out of England.
For a super long casting round reel - for deep catfish setups - AKIOS 666 and their 656 CTM series - magnets with break blocks - they will cast so long - 200 yards if you nail it with a long rod tuned to unload. Many use them for stripers and tailrace setups around dams - souped up ABU 5000 and 6500 series round reels designed differently - long distance casting. The HATTERAS JACK custom setups during the 80s around Cape Hatteras - these reels are co designed by Japanese and English anglers who fish round reels and cast competitively with these same systems. Many chase carp and large freshwater fish bank fishing with surf rods.
Another late night LAKE THING to do.
One of my setups - bass trout redfish running 10lb flouro
Blank is an MHx (G Loomis scrim / designs @ made for MudHole Customs) 7'2"

Fuji Reel seat
Lews BB1 Inshore Speedmaster with SpeedSpool ABEC 7 ceramics
1/4 to 1 oz - this blank eats it up - long casts - cheating
Long time shimano fan here. My hands down favorite, and I've had alot of different models, are the Scorpions. Back in the day they were part of the Japan line of Shimanos and I would get them from Brooklyn Bill's tackle. Not many folks imported them back then, but i'm sure tons of folks do now.
Uncle is fully retired now and he's my best fishing buddy. Now, he gets to fish whenever he wants. 1-2x/week. He's been using a Lew's Laser pro Speed Spool 7.5 gear ratio for years.
I want to get him something he knows is the best and special just from the initial feel of fishing with the reel. We throw Jig n Pig, Buzzbaits, and dbl spinners primarily.
Adding one with a different retrieve speed, worming and slow topwater - lower gear - may be the ticket? He knows how to tune it using the Lews controls - a bit different that Shimano.
