We haven’t kept a trout since. Plenty of redfish and drum to eat. Makes since on the 17 inch minimum trying to increase total numbers by protecting smaller fish. Hope we rebound quick but I think it’s gonna be a while before I see the big fish numbers we had pre freeze.
We’re in LLM and agree 110%. Only trout we kept were a couple we hooked way deep. Even tried to Boga them back to life but they literally bled out while trying. We will keep 2-3 reds a day between the wife and I. We aren’t greedy. If you’re fishing to feed the family from a $75k boat you’re losing ground.

Solid answer! Good to hear people actually care about the fisheries. Like you said if you’re fishing to “feed the family” going to HEB is much cheaper

How about 4 trout 14-24. Seems like about everyone you catch are 14 3/4 inches and die when you try to get the hook out or like mentioned before those dam dolphins eat them. If they cut the limits much more going to a lot of fisherman and money along the gulf coast.

The problem is there is no exact science in a fishery....... you can count deer in a pasture, you can count cows at the farm
          But not fish

Yeah when they do those gill net studies and kill all those big trout! Yeah that’s a great way to count them [emoji23]

I live about 20 minutes from the ramp at the causeway. I haven’t fished the Texas side of Sabine Lake for about 5 years. Now at 65, I don’t even need a LA license.

Also, as part of the study, they tried to overhandle fish, keep them out too long, rub the slime off, etc and it didn't have much effect on mortality rates.

Trout are tougher than we think.

                Thanks for sharing that information.
