East Texas Feed pens and corn feeders

After reading every post ever made by garguy I have been fascinated by the idea of small feed pens and hand corn for mature East Texas bucks. My one remaining question is whether or not a gravity feeder would be a bad idea as opposed to putting corn on the ground or maybe having a gravity feeder say within 100 yards just so that in times you cant make it each week to replenish corn they still have some. What are yalls thoughts on mature deer and gravity feeders, do they avoid them like they do timed feeders?

Gravity is the way to go. I run regular feeders and gravity (free choice) protein feeders separated by 50-100 yds at our blinds
I get lots of picture if big bucks at the free choice feeders but never get them on camera at the spincast feeders
Otherwise I find a tree and run cable around the tallest limb I can find and get my feeders up as high as possible (20’)
Ive had good luck with this as well.
      Yiu can try this too

I put 2 6.5 gallon buckets about 20’ high on a tree limb. One goes off in the morning and one in the evening. Bucks have no issues feeding under them because they are out of the way. I’ve also had bucks feed at gravity feeders.

I pen my protein free choice feeder but add a gravity corn feeder strapped to a tree in there too. Then I hand corn in it. Works great. Hogs can’t get in and the older bucks are comfortable jumping in. I run a spin corn feeder about 150 yards away for the hogs to use

to keep me from spending the day looking up his posts on feed pens, what was the verdict? I am on a new place this year and plan on adding pens next year depending on how things go

I have a gravity feeder in my feeder pen and it seems to attract them well

do you have cattle on your place? if not there is no reason to build a pen and go through the hassle and cost. it's just one more thing a big buck isn't comfortable with. Just put a free choice feeder out and be done.

what he does is takes about 3 16ft hog panels and makes a circle out of them and pours corn on ground in them. I believe he prefers the smaller pens to larger. Also he may use cattle panels cut in half (about 26 inches tall instead of the 34 inch tall hog panel.

No cattle but covered in Hogs, I have tried free choice feeders in the past but the hogs just run into them and it causes the corn to fall out. I am thinking about trough feeders now

Do you not have pigs? My hogs are so mean they have torn up my pens gettin in.

I thought Garguy said 4 16 ‘ panels is all he uses.

OP do a search on the ghost feeder with the quiet actuated door that just drops the corn down (in your pen of course)

                              Na not many , lol
There is a free choice feeder about 65 yds from the feeder in this pic and the pigs can’t reach the feeder tubes so they don’t spend much time around them
They will cruise by and pick up whatever the deer and coons spill on the ground and move on
The big bucks crush the free choice but won’t touch the corn at the stand and fill feeder
The pics of the bucks are all at free choice feeders within 50-100 yds from the stand and fills
