Same Kind Of Different As Me

For those of you in the hill country this is something going on in Center Point. This is a great book if you haven't read it.

After beginning the academic year with a school-wide reading of the New York Times’ best seller, Same Kind of Different as Me, CPHS students prepare to host authors Ron Hall and Denver Moore. On Wednesday, May 6th, after being honored at our state Capitol, Ron Hall and Denver Moore will make their way to Center Point ISD to be a part of two celebrations.
The first celebration will be at 2:30pm, where students from all over the Hill Country will honor the authors for making a difference. Inspired by Denver Moore’s willingness to learn to read and write after the publication of the book, CPHS students will dedicate the school’s Content Mastery Lab to Denver Moore. It is officially named Denver’s Lab.

Students from Kerrville ISD, San Antonio ISD, Mason ISD, Bandera ISD, and Junction ISD will also attend and share their stories of how reading Same Kind of Different as Me inspired them to make a difference.

The second celebration, to which the entire community is invited, will be held at 6:00pm at Pirate Stadium. For those that have read the book, this is a wonderful opportunity to hear these extraordinary men speak. For those that have not read it, this is an invitation to be inspired to do so. As stated by so many, “This book can be life changing.”

This project began in August at Center Point High School with two hundred copies of the book made available through Mr. Mike Baumann of Michael M. Baumann & Co. and , Mr. Fred Gamble of Schreiner University, and Dr. Bill Blackburn of Partners in Ministry. Since then, the books have traveled throughout the Hill Country, where students shared these same books with friends, neighbors, and family members. It is estimated that over 1000 people have read the original 200 books!

Come join us on May 6th at 6:00pm and hear the message of how “…everybody’s different – the same kind of different as me. We’re all just regular folks walkin’ down the road God done set in front of us.” – Denver Moore.

There is no charge for admission to this event, but students will collect canned food items in an effort to stock our local food banks before summer break. Please consider non perishable food item donation.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend the evening session to 830-634-6113 or email curry@cpisd.net with the number of those planning to attend.

Last year Ron and Denver came and spoke at our church in Aledo - a great book and a truly inspirational story. According to their website a movie deal has been signed, to be produced by the same guy who did "Pursuit of Happyness". If they do it right it could be a great movie...
