    registration for Selective Service

On my 18th birthday my Parents gave me a gift and a card. Inside that card was my registration form for Selective Service. It was very important to my Parents that I do that and it was important to me as well.

Now my son turns 18 in March. He will be getting his registration done as well. I wonder how many 18 year old males actually do this?

Wow haven’t really thought about that since 1985 when I was doing mine

Had a college buddy who had duel citizenship and got called back to France for a mandatory 18 months

I just went to the post office a few days after my 18th.....was not a big deal at all. I have not even thought about it since.

It's still required by federal law.

Both my boys did it, I got my notice when I was already in the Army
Considering the current leadership we have in this country including the military I'm not to sure I would support my kid going into the military

My son did it last year, now the Demonrats just passed a bill for all girls to sign up for it at 18.

It's still required by law, so, I imagine most of them will just like we all did? Always a few that wont, but there always has been. Don't think this is the generational difference that you are making it out to be honestly

X2. Nowadays not sure I'd be so gung ho about it. In 4 years they'll all be wearing rainbow uniforms so as not to be unfair to others and inclusive internally.

I filled out the selective service form either just before or the day I enlisted, can’t remember honestly but I know I did it.

There’s always been some “outcasts” in the military (WW2 even had their fair share of conscientious objectors, AWOL folks, etc). However, I assure you there’s still plenty of service members that are tougher than woodpecker lips - as the saying goes.

I've served for 29 years. I'd take my chances in today's climate and throw that paper in the trash. You may think that you are becoming part of the greater good, for your country. In reality you will be used to line the pockets of inferior men and women, who you will also be made to pay respect to and obey at the drop of a hat. Our leadership is compromised all the way up the ladder. It is disgusting to see immoral and unethical leadership get away with everything in this politically divisive climate.
