"Which Camera Question" - Here is the result!!!!!

I asked the question here and pondered the responses. After a great deal more reading and comparing, I ended up buying a Canon 30D. The picture is not exact as the lens that came with mine is a Canon 24-85mm 3.5-4.5 USM.

The next thing I have to purchase is a decent bag and most importantly a big lens for shooting critters. I got pretty close to these two...it was late and using the 85mm the light wasn't great.

I really need to get better at these. This is a view from the front of my house.

Nice choice! That last picture is pretty sweet. What photo editing software are you going to be using? I'll send you some simple tricks for it so you can quickly post process your pictures. Also, shooting in JPEG mode is fine when you are shooting lots of random candids and you don't want to post process every one. But, when you are going for that "one" sunset or other substantial photo that you think would be kick butt, shoot in RAW mode. I haven't studied it but, I can almost guarantee that camera will save files in both modes at the same time and the camera should be fast enough to do it without a bunch of lag in write time. Do it if you can.

Gerald, yes it will save in both raw and jpeg at the same time. I guess that means I need to buy a humongus compact flash card or two? I have Photoshop but know nothing about it. So far I have just used Microsoft Photo Editor to crop them. I did play around with adjusting levels a little. I think I need to go to school to learn how to use this thing and the editing software! Any tips and tricks you send will be greatly appreciated.

Son of a bit...you're one smart feller! Great choice, Larry. You'll enjoy it. That machine is real similar to my 20D. Holler if you need any help with it!

                Enjoy!

I think this guy does a pretty good job of explaining things if you care to look. It's my lazy way of showing you some stuff. And yes, you are going to need a couple of big cards. Get the higher end cards with the faster write speeds.

Thanks Casey, I think I made a good choice...glad that you agree! I am sure I will be hollering. Hopefully I will be able to pick a few brains at Bownanza....yours included!

Scott I live right across from the overlook park on Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir. I love it here.

Thanks Gerald. I will take a look at the link. Also, I had a couple of standard 1 gig cards but have already been shopping for at least a couple of 2 gig Ulta 2 or 3 cards.

                            Congrats Larry.

Even though I haven't upgraded to a better lense, the quality of pics are a lot better with a DSLR.

I really liked the Stillhouse sunset pic!
