    I need some info guys.

This thread is not meant to stir the pot, I just need some info. That being said, I am getting ready to buy a new truck (Ford F350). I am a big fan of the 7.3L. and as such I have avoided the 6.0L Like the plague. I have 3 1 ton's now all 7.3L PS's. I need an opinion on the new 6.4L 2008 F350 SD Crew. I have heard that with the 6.4L, Ford has fixed almost all the issues with the 6.0L. Also what is the MPG with the 6.4L?

Ford Forum This would be a good place for some information on these trucks!!! I have been on the site for a while and the main complaint with the 6.4 that I have seen is the poor fuel mileage... Hope this helps!!!

+1 the fuel mileage leaves something to be desired. You do know that the 6.7 "Scorpion" in coming in the 2011 model year don't ya

I have an 06 F350 C/C FX4 with the 6.0 and have over 70,000 miles with absolutely ZERO problems and the fuel mileage is 17 or better at almost any speed on the highway. Don't really know what it is in town and I don't really care. I don't baby the truck by any means, but I do take very good care (maintanance) of her. I pull a fairly heavy 16 enclosed trailer almost every day and I also have a 33' fifth wheel that this truck has absolutely no problems pulling down the road at over 70. Yes they had problems with the 6.0 in early years, but I think that by the time i bought my 06, most had been worked out. Heard good things about the 6.4, except for the mileage and that is the biggest detractor I have heard.

My '08 F350 SRW/Crew/Long/4x4 for city/hwy MPG was... 10.6/16.7 before ~9,000 miles, 11.8/17.2 at ~13000 miles and now 13.0/17.8 after 17,000 miles. But, I typically have a slightly heavy foot (15 lbs boost off the light), do a lot of stop and go through Clear Lake and Webster, am somewhat loaded on the hwy and haven't got the EE prom upgrade yet. I've heard of guys getting as low as ~8 in town, but I suspect that's because they treat it like a race truck. You might also check http://www.superdutydiesel.com/.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a 30' FeatherLight 4 horse slant w/ full living quarters goose neck and when fully loaded it's around 16k #'s, so I really have to get a 1 ton. I have heard just little about the MPG on the 6.4 but, both my '99 and my '02 are getting around 13 in city and 17 highway est. So if the 6.4 is getting that or aroung that I am cool with that. I will probly customize it like I did my others also to see if I can tweak it a little. Thanks again.

I got a buddy that has the 6.0 and the 7.3 and the 6.0 stays parked 85% of the time.

My cousin is a ford freak for some reason and he has the 6.4 and has yet to get better than 14 unloaded.

I will stick with my 02 Cummings, its got 4 inches of lift and 35 in tires and gets 17 all day on the highway.

My '08 F350 Lariat, SRW, crewcab, LWB, 4x4 gets in the 14.4-14.6 range running unloaded. Pulling a 30' gooseneck w/Ford New-Holland 7740 & 10' brush hog gets about 11, it pulls WAY better than my '97 7.3 or '04 6.0. EPA regulations have cut mileage on all the new diesel pickups.

I am a firm believer that some people get lucky and some people don't. The same idea for vehicles. Some people praise them and others curse a particular brand, model, engine. When I was a Service Writer and the local Ford House, a guy came in, ordered 2 identical trucks F250 6.0, the VIN # was 1 number off. Consecutive trucks. One he never brought in except for service and the other was always there. Who knows. Go with your gut and cross your fingers.

Ha! You guys are doing GREAT! At the FD, we have an 08 F-550 brush truck with the 6.4.....I haven't done the real math because a different guy fills her up each shift, but the computer on the dash says it's getting 5.6MPG! That said, we drive the crud out of that truck, plus it carries about 3-4K in water, pump and equipment everywhere it goes, and almost all driving is in town.

I guess anything's possible with that kinda weight, hard driving and long idling, but you know that the "computer's estimated MPG" is generally referred to as a Lie-O-Meter.

Oh yeah, but in my experience, it usually lies so that you think you are getting better mileage than you really are.
