Tryn not to be judgemental here, but I came across some rather "interesting" folks tonight.
No offense intended if it was you or yours.
Had to hit up Wal-mart (don't judge me - lol) after work so it was pretty much dark as I made my way home through the refuge.
Now I've seen many "interesting" folks through here, in the daylight (fotografers & such, and even a lost deer hunter - whom I gave a ride as he was 4 mi from his intended location and getn farther from it w ea step, lol) but tonight was plain odd, imo.
As I came up on the LW xing by the Headquarters I noticed near a dz snakes (cotton mouths I think - or at least some were) stretched out all over the concrete xing. No doubt soaking up some heat.
When I turned towards Big Mineral picnic area I saw at least 4 or 5 more on the road in about 1/2 a mile stretch. That's where I encountered the 1st gentlemen. Nearly ran over him actually! He was jogging towards me w no light. I just eased on by.
I went on another 1/4 mi and came up on a lady who looked like she was gearing up for a hurricane. Had on a poncho looking rain coat type thing with the hood gerted down tight across her forehead. Once again, no light. But her slicker did have reflective stripes.
The man was jogging as to flow with traffic in the oncoming lane (though I was the only traffic) whereas the lady was walking against traffic/me on my side.
20 yards before I got to her I passed/straddled a perty good sized snake. Well, I stopped and rolled down the passenger window to chat. She said they were just walking down & back. ???
I asked if she had a flashlight and she said yes. The light on her phone. I told her she might better fire it up cause she was bout to walk up on a snake(s). She said thanks, I'll walk in the middle, and off she went.
I bid her good luck and headed on home.
These two looked to me like it was the 1st time they'd ever stepped on a country road, lol. I could be wrong. Just thought it was an odd time to be walking/jogging through Hagerman, w no lights.
Just before I got to the Big Mineral gate I noticed their parked vehichle(s). A couple of cruiser type motorcycles! I was expecting a Prius (sp) !
