    Erath county rut.

I had seen little rutting activity till yesterday. Saw a nice buck standing in the middle of a pasture about 2 miles away from lease @ 4:30 p.m.. Saw first nice mature heavy 8(black tarsal glands) from my ladder stand(35 yards but no shot)) that was cruising and tearing up mesquites several times like he was pi$$ed off. Several small 1.5 year old bucks chasing does pretty good. Then with about 15 minutes of daylight left, I saw 2 small deer that I thought were small yearling bucks and 1 mounted the other. I thought it was just playfulness until he did it again and this time it was the real thing. It was a small doe and a 3 point that I had seen several times before. He actually followed here by my ladder stand and bred her again and again before they went out of site. This was the earliest I have ever seen a doe breed and it was by a 1.5 year old 3 point. I`m fixing to head back out and climb back into that tree and see if that hot doe can bring me some luck this a.m.. Love is in the air and I want to take advantage of it. I actually got it on video and it is for mature audiences only.

We have been camping at McCown valley for well over 20 years...

From my unscientific studies, you might get one or two that come in early, ( like now),, but the peak usually hits 1-2 weeks before Thanksgiving.

We have seen some great bucks in the park breeding, last one was 20 yards away.

We are in NW Erath and bucks still grouped up together. Wont be long now and they will split up. No signs of rutting yet

I'm just across the river in Brock and noticed a mature buck that was trailing, this morning. No doe in sight but he had his nose to the ground and walking fast. Paid no attention to my truck as I watched him in the headlights, from about 60 yards.
