Who Needs Argentina Dove When You’ve Got Arkansas Snow Geese

I grew up in Alvin in the 70’s and 80’s and we always had geese all over. Hunted near Lane City and then Markham in the late 80’s and it was loaded with birds. Now living in Ft. Bend county you don’t even hear geese at all much less see them anywhere. We’ve lost most of the agricultural and I also think the majority of the geese just don’t make down this far anymore. Texas used to be the #1 rice producer, now it maybe AR or CA, what a shame.

When my dad was a teen growing up in Abbeville Louisiana they would hunt geese around Alvin. That’s why we moved there when I was a kid. Flocks of geese would block out the sun and pintails buy the thousands. Me and my brother would just put out white paper plates in the back pasture and shoot pintails all morning. I think they were a 10 point duck back then. Those were the good old days to say the least.
