you missed the point then. If you find it close or with minimal effort early this morning, then you have no need for the dog and can save the guy the trip. And if the dog needs to come in, you've done your best and haven't screwed up anything. I'm sure a decent dog can sort through human and deer scent rather easily, no? If there were 10 more people in there prior to the OP yesterday, it still would not be an issue!

Speaking from experience of owing some amazing trail dogs... you are wrong. Stomping around and stepping on scent you can't see, tracks it every where you step, thus totally screwing the trail. Could my dogs sort it out? Most of the time but no point in making it worse.
