Food Plots, Tree Stands, Scrapes Video

Our food plots got some much needed rain today. I planted September 1. We had just over an inch of rain and a few sprinkles in all of September. Several rain storms have just missed us recently. We got about 3/4 inch of slow rain today. The food plots have done pretty good for as dry as it has been.

I checked one of my favorite stands that I call The Terrace Stand. I had not been down to the Terrace since July. There are some big scrapes on both sides of the creek where the Terrace Stand is located.

Here are some pictures of my food plots and a video at the Terrace Stand. I plan to start hunting in about 10 days.

What method did you use to plant the food plots? Throw and mow or something else?
      They look great!

I am sure some deer are hitting the food plots. I can see where some of the cereal rye and oats have been grazed down. I haven't started hunting yet and I don't have and cameras on the food plots. I am running 5 cameras on scrapes right now.

The deer have so much food up here right now....corn, beans, alfalfa, and natural browse. The deer will start hitting the food plots hard after the corn and beans are harvested and when frost browns the alfalfa.

The deer will hit the turnips and radishes after we start getting consistent freezes. Sugar comes up out the turnip and radishes after it freezes several times. The deer will start eating the tops. Then later the deer will did up the turnip or radish or eat it off level with the ground. The food plots also have cereal rye, oats, barley, triticale and clovers to give the deer some early green forage. Here is what I planted.

            Basically no till.

I mowed first because some of those areas were waist high. I then sprayed with glysophate. Two of the plots are new for this year. On those two new ones I pulled some of the thatch out with the teeth on my box blade and disced lightly. I didn't turn the soil....just kinda cut the thatch so the seed could get through. I fertilized about two weeks after I planted. I overseeded the turnips, radishes and cool season mix with cereal rye about 10 days ago.

I am going to do a season long "live hunt" like I have in the past.

I will probably get going around the 20th. I been working on some projects that I am trying to finish before winter.
