1/8 is good because the kerf of a circular blade on a table saw is the same width and you can make a super simple frame by running a piece of 1X through it and then making your miter cuts. Use finish nails and silicone in the gaps so it doesn't rattle or trap water. Add some hinges and BOOM, you have a window that will fold in and hold it self up with he right hinges and will totally silent.
I always used 1/4" lexan... It's stiff enough to be used without a frame. Drill on slow speed to mount latches/hinges. The lexan will cost a bit more, but it will remain clear longer than plexiglass if it is out in the sun. In the shade where there's no direct sunlight, either lexan or plexiglass will work.
