Thank you everyone for the help. Had someone come out with a dog, and he trailed the deer about 200 yards through the brush to the exact spot where we jumped the deer earlier. Found about 3 drops of blood on one little twig, and nothing else. With as much white rock as there is here, blood is generally easy to spot. Dog kept back tracking then going back to the same spot. After about another hour of looking, we gave up. I really don’t think the deer is mortally wounded. I think she hit him high, and hopefully he’ll be back.

Kevin and I were going to offer to come out and offer a fresh set of eyes if you couldn’t find a dog…but see you did that.
Tell her….get back out there and shoot this evening. It happens to all of us eventually. Best thing to do is get right back out there.
Good luck!

Update: My parents’ neighbor across the road saw the deer yesterday evening. He said he’s a big, old, heavy horned deer (one we know well). He has an entry & exit wound high on his back, but was eating & acting perfectly normal. I wish he would’ve shot him, but maybe my niece will get another shot at him soon.
