i posted in the public hunting forum with no luck, just wanted to see if anyone has any experience out there?

my boys are in the draw for youth deer tomorrow, only 2 permits so i dont expect to draw, but ive been searching around for any info on this place and cant find anything anywhere.

PM is fine if you dont want to post, i am just curious if anyone here has drawn and what the experience was.

I put my son in for there as well. First time to apply there for him. Kinda like you I have no experience hunting there and couldn't find a lot on the web.

It would be cool if y'all drew one permit and we drew the other!!!

Just saw that you said you applied for your boys not boy so if you draw you'd get both permits (so we couldn't both get draw).

My son got drawn for anterless/spike nov 6th here, he also got drawn for San Angelo anterless/spike..

I used to live a few miles from there. Lots of mule deer out there.

Hes got 2 does down so far. I was leary once we saw the place but its an awesome hunt so far.

He ended up filling his permit 3 does. All spot and stalk.
Whoever got the buck hunt is going to be lucky. We saw 2 nice bucks several times. The Federal Game warden and the assistant refuge manager are top notch guys.

What little I read said LOTS of mule deer, the terrain (not a ton of cover), they told us the whitetail were extremely skittish(lots were) and the 17% success rate that showed on the drawing website for this hunt. He had another hunt i thought we would do well at and came home empty handed. These things felt like this was going to be more of the same.
We did see alot of mule deer but they stayed towards one end of the refuge.
It was a doe hunt but hes a happy kid, and I had a blast and would do this one again.
