That’s the sole purpose of a DPF. Removing “particulates,” AKA Black Soot, from the air. Yes, some deleted trucks can still burn fairly clean depending on the tune. I was simply saying that the DPF does affect the amount of black smoke.
My deleted F-250 is pretty dang clean, but try rolling coal on a newer truck with the dpf still intact, tune or no tune. It definitely affects your “rolling coal” abilities. Lol
To a point, but the DPF is not 100% efficient even under normal operating conditions. Add 200% more fuel, and you can get black smoke to come out of anything on the truck.
The reason you don't see as many new ones blowing black smoke is because the people who can afford them are typically older and are more concerned about the warranty than how much power they can make. The "how much power can they make" crowd tends to be younger, and dumber...as this news story confirms.
New diesels are severely constrained by the DPF. If DPF wasn't required, I am positive we would have factory diesels with 2000+ ft-lbs and 700+ hp.
The reason you don't see new ones blowing smoke is because they won't with the DPF, and it costs a lot more to get rid of the DPF now, than it did 5 years ago. Furthermore, the EPA has been coming down hard on shops that delete the new trucks with very large fines, and the parts are far more dificult to come by.
The kid is an idiot, and should do time. It's not the trucks fault.

What does diesel delete and rolling coal have to do with a dumbass kid running over 6 cyclist? If you're trying to attribute diesel emissions to causing the death of cyclist, you may as well add cell phones to the top of that list.

Luckily, the kid didn't kill anyone.
The delete was simply brought up because the kid was "trying to roll coals" on the cyclists. OP wanted a better understanding of the reason diesels can even roll coals in the first place, or what benefit rolling coals provides.
