Baton Rouge to kerrviile avoiding Houston?

Wife’s family is coming in from baton rouge and want to avoid Houston and San Antonio, best alternative routes? Food stops and best lodging towns for a two day trip ?
    TIA !!

Taking 105 from Beaumont to Brenham then 290 to Fredericksburg and I believe 16 (not sure the hwy) from Fredericksburg to Kerrville would be an alternative that avoids the two cities mentioned. Gotta be quite a few extra miles, but plenty of cool stuff along the way. 105 Cafe in Conroe is my favorite breakfast place in the world. Some very strong BBQ options along that route, and Fredericksburg is always a good time for ladies.

With all the construction on I-10 between Houston and San Antonio and also between Beaumont and Houston, not to mention between Lafayette and Baton Rouge, HOUSTON will be the least of your worries WRT traffic!

I would say stop in Conroe/Montgomery (roughly 5 hours) or make it all the way to Brenham. Then a pretty easy 3-4 hours to Fredericksburg and then all the way to your place.

I would avoid I-10 between San Antonio and Boerne. They took a bridge out over I-10 @ TX 46 and traffic has been horrendous there.

There are alternatives for them but they all suck worse than I-10 and thats saying a lot. I make this run from Bandera County to Baton Rouge regularly and have tried everything. Its better to take I-10 and just get it in your head something somewhere is gonna slow you down and just be happy if it goes great.

I wish I could help but I don’t think there is a better route. The last 3 times I went through Baton Rouge the traffic was worse there than all of Houston combined! I hate driving through Baton Rouge!
