    sighting in your protection weapon

I just curious, I know with a deer rifle its usually like 1" above center at 100 yards.

I shot that P89 this weekend at 15 yards and it was about a consistent 3" above center.

How do you sight in your home protection weapon?

I haven't had to yet. My Beretta has combat sights and they are within an inch from 10 to 25 yards. In terms of home defense your longest shot is probably going to be 10 yards or so. 25' is a pretty common distance to zero in lasers for pistols.

I was just curious if it should be zeroed about 10-15 yards and adjust according for center mass if for some reason I had to reach out a little.

Seems like you already got a good baseline. You can neither offset aim or get an adjustable rear sight.

Wonder how much drop a 9mm would have from 25 yards if zero at 10 yards. I must investigate this next time I shoot this thing.

That's what is called a six o'clock hold. Let's you see a little more of the target. I wouldn't mess with it. It will probably actually be pretty close at 10 yards.

You shouldn't have much, if any drop at 25 yards. The p89 has a four inch barrel, right?

Believe me when I say, sights will not come into play when you are in shoot.... Instinctive shooting at 3, 7, 10, and 15 yards is some of the best training you can enforce upon yourself...

The only time you will even have time to use a sight system on a handgun will be in a slow shoot or at the range when trying to hit the bullseye, but I have not ever lived a slow shoot...

They last less than 15 seconds normally and consist of 20 rounds or less...from both sides.... Shoot instinctive at the above yardages and it will make a huge difference in your all around defensive shooting....

HWC, that makes since, I took a course at work, close quarter combat, and the shooting senerios were similar to what you mentioned above. I was just thinking initial setup.

You should get very familiar with your weapon, now how to holster, draw (not quick), reholster, etc... And know where the safety is if there is one, know everything about your chosen weapon of choice you can know....

When you have all this done...Start the drill I spoke of... and you will see a big difference in your all around shooting in a real shoot sinerio and you will not have to look away from the threat to find you weapon or take your attention off the neutralized threat after the incident has taken place.... to reholster...

Stay safe and God Forbid anyone on this sight ever...ever...ever... have to live through this situation....
