I recently purchased a Sony camcorder (DV tape), I am having problems when I download to my computer and play the video back there seems to be frames droped, there is a lot of pause and when it comes back some of the video is missing. Anybody familiar with this? My computer is a bit old, that could be some of the problem. I am using the sony software that came with the camera. Thanks!

Without actually seeing your hardware and software and camera interacting, I'm going ot guess that it's either 1 of 3 things: it's the tape itself or a connection problem or it's the tape transport in the camera.
Try this: fast forward and fast rewind the tape a couple of times to the very end to tighten it up.
Clean the heads of the tape transport in your camera also using either a head cleaning tape or alcohol on a Q tip.
If it's a connection wiggle the wiring while it's being downloaded: if it breaks up then it's a connection.
This is also another reason why you really should try to avoid using your camera as also a tape deck. It just wears the heads/transport out that much faster.
Look on eBay or Craig's list for other cameras for cheap. They don't have to shoot video but make sure that the PLAYBACK function works and use it for a tape deck.
I've bought a few for less than $30 dollars a piece and they've worked just fine.

Ok, thanks for the reply, only one thing. I noticed the skipping on the first playbacks so the next time I imported I watched real close as you can watch it as it imports, and there is no skip seen as you import, but when you replay it that is when you see the skip. this is for clarity, let me know if you still feel the same, I am on top of your other suggestion too.
