My brother Brokenarrow took the opportunity the drought gave to get two of his old tanks cleaned out last month.
The guy who lives next door to the ranch said his father and grandfather dug these tanks with a team of mules and a graderblade before WWII.
The tanks not only gave water to the cattle but a great swimming hole for our neighbor and his friends when they were growing up.
They had since filled in to the point where they were less than 5 or 6 feet deep before spilling out.
We got by for several years but the drought just dried em up but bad.
I played supervisor for a week while the dozers did the tanks, cut a few thousand feet of new fenceline, and cleared out a new foodplot.
We went out today and found #1 tank 3/4 full and #2 going over the spillway.
The cow are going to be happy again. The mud will be an instant hog magnet.
Me, when the tanks algae up again I'll be throwin some fish in for next fall. I can't wait to see the bobber go under. Yum yum.
Enjoy the pics ya'll.
