Thoughts on lack of doves?

I hunted Thurs in a field that wasn’t hunted Wednesday. But regardless, any other year, it’s good for 4-5 days before it’s shot out

I can’t fully get on board with this. That freeze was mid/late feb, our resident birds that nest in spring and summer would have migrated well south at that time of year, right? Wouldn’t the birds here in Feb have been birds that migrated from the north?

And if that is right and we have a down year on resident birds, shouldn’t we expect a bad year all around as the migrators would have been the hardest hit with the freeze?

I always thought the resident birds were year round birds that don't migrate. No?

I always thought the resident birds were year round birds that don't migrate. No?

I've always thought resident birds spring, summer, fall here having babies and still migrate south in the winter. They just never or rarely go further north than their residency of choice.

You're probably right. I just never gave it much thought. Just assumed they never left.

They don't have to go to Mexico City to migrate dupa. They can get caught...it was record cold all the way down to Mexico though....and some January/February warm weather will move some birds up to get caught. We saw dead dove at the deer lease when we went back to check water issues....so birds died in the cold.
