David - We may be going down Thursday evening Sept 16th. Either fishing the north jetty or PINS Friday/Sat. Just FYI if you want to go.

So far it's Richard(Banzai) myself and my son. Plans are not final yet as son just started classes and is trying to see if he can miss classes.

Tim, I am on call for work most of September. I wanna try to get down PINS sometime. My son has a lot of surf fishing gear. Momma said I can't go down to PINS alone.(What could go wrong 40 miles down the beach ) My son wants to go, but he is fixing to have hernia surgery. Probably be October before I can get down there.

Holler when you want to go. I'm down there all the time especially in October and November. Glens about to get off the road and would probably go too.

Ask Poco what can go wrong? Lots! You just need to be prepared down there. There is not much emergency help. Love being down there!

Captain, i was being facetius about what could go wrong. I know full well the dangers. First time I went down was at night. took us 4 hours to get to the jetties. Never again at night.

another time, we came across a lady with her young son...MM 30-50 Not sure. We were heading back to Corpus. She got too close to the dunes and and was stuck in her Bronco II. She was very fortuneate I saw her as we drove past.

I just got a hankering to get out and surf fish.

I'll double back tomorrow - lets fish and October thru November is PRIMO ON PINS!!!

Been a long day - just winding it down.

Once that Gulf gets to 75 degrees - the day becomes action and the migrations are in full swing.

The surf becomes a free for all - think speck make a cast with a solid speck lure and get spooled by a bull red or kingfish or.........it's unreal if the water temps are in that 68-75 degree zone.

                  October 12 - PINS

November 23 - Drifter and I lost count at around 26 bull reds

                  November 17

Brute 55 cooler - one of the pomps is 23"

David - we can roll down PINS to the no cell phone zone - no IT bidness there

Doug's got it dialed in and Glen is about to get dialed into the Coastal Bend - everyday is a Saturday crew - and we have talked about doing this regularly when it's prime time.

Darn good time to get cranking.

The biggest trick - is fishing the RIGHT conditions. Locking in dates on a calendar - it's a iffy proposition if the weather is sideways. October has some of the calmest and clearest water days of the year - the Gulf is in transition and the first few cool fronts help change the predominant 15 - 20 mph winds experienced there, all summer long from the SE.

November then becomes the reverse - with hard cold winds becoming the norm, and as Glen and Doug know, NE winds in the surf along PINS, the bite slows down. This is the period where you want to roll down as the winds swing S - SE, right after a cool front. NE winds typically keep the surf conditions relatively clean, and as it shifts to the south, the water typically goes clear to sandy/green.

The day Drifter - Robbie and I caught and released dozens of redfish, the 20 to 40 lb range, every cast, we had a very light SE wind pattern. And the bite was on every cast - the wind swung to the East - ENE and boom, like a light switch, they shut down.

E - NE winds, fish will bite but, it's a bit more spread out. The good thing, as you work the suds - no matter what the wind conditions are (as long as you have decent water clarity) - there will always be something to target.

When I lived and worked the Coastal Bend for the USCG, October 0300, I was on the Bob Hall fishing pier chasing specks and slot redfish, casting lures at the first light on top of the pier. My rig, double drop leadheads with a mix of plastics. Hook a fish, let it run a bit, dragging that second jig - doubles literally every time, with some hookups having a speck and redfish both on that setup. Too much to lift up onto the pier, I would walk them up onto the sand, and run down off the pier ramp to grab them, into the cooler - repeat.

Knocked out limits fast, quick clean, iced and roll to work - shower and stick the uniform on for the day.

                      BigL - come on!
