The ranch we bought has set idle for the last 14 years with neither of the last 2 owners doing anything to it so it needs some attention to its roads and fences.
It has 4 different entry points, 3 on the North end and 1 on the South end one of our first things to do was get some nice gates in to the stop unwanted traffic.
We dropped the all the steel in the ground for the first gate which is visible from the hwy and a few neighbors took notice and introduced themselves in short order.
Hillbilly 1 owns the place to the East and was pretty rough around the edges but has turned out to be a really dang good fella even if he is a pot farmer.
Hillbilly 2 owns the place to the East and according to Hillbilly 1 he is a snoop but a good fella. Well after meeting him I clearly see that his wife is stalking my Linkedin page, lol But in all he is good fella and been real helpful in learning the history of the place and about ALL the neighbors
Hillbilly 3..... This one is special and owns the place to the North West. Hillbilly 2 likes him , Hillbilly 1 dont like anyone... but ole Number 3. Right off the bat, he comes up and we shake hands, he looks over at my truck and say... Texas huh...all you people want to do is buy up our land and put up fences.
I just keep smiling trying to be nice.
Number 3 then proceeds to tell me if his cows get out he wont even take the time to call me before he comes and does as he pleases.
(Still smiling) I ask him if his cows are free range? He says NO THEY ARE FENCED IN. I asked him, do you have gates on your property? He said sure do and I have a gate by my house to keep people from driving right up to my house.
At this point I do believe my smile was bothering him as I tried not to laugh.
It was at this point in time when Hillbilly 3 had a epiphany that gates and fences were not so bad after all and invited us over to break bread with his family the next time we are up there working.
The local problem is they have been using the land as their own for 14 plus years and now its coming to an end. In the end I hope they are able to learn the old adage "Good fences make good neighbors"
