A/C people- question about TRANE Thermostat setting

We just purchased a new home that has two Trane X18 systems installed with Trane 1050 thermostats.

Can someone tell me about this setting on the thermostat: cooling dehumidify setpoint trane. How should I set that to maximize humidity control?

Not a Trane guy in particular, but we typically set indoor humidity level at 50% on our systems. That system should use its staging to try to meet that humidity and your set temp at the same time. It will also allow it to overshoot your temp by up to 3 degrees in order to achieve that humidity level.

      Currently its set at 50%.

Any idea what 40% or 65% does? Which direction allows me to control humidity more?

Setting it at the lower humidity set point will allow you to control/reduce the humidity more. Attached is how that stat attempts to lower the humidity inside.

50% is the ideal set point. Those units are designed to be set and left alone. So find your ideal setting for comfort and lock it in. Those units preform best when they can just maintain the desired setting and not have to play catch up from 78 - 72 degrees like most people do when they leave and come home. It can cruise all day at 30-60% power and maintain and with that you get the best comfort and energy ratings.
