    Last Time - Adios Uvalde

We are under contract to sell our place in Uvalde and yesterday was the last time we will be there before the closing. My dad bought the place back in 1999 and we have hunted and improved the place since. We shed many tears yesterday. It was sad but a lot of great memories were made and remembered. Although unsuccessful, I got one last hunt in with both of my boys!! I raised my kids there and that place has contributed greatly to them becoming the young men they are today.

Hopefully the next place will bring just as much joy. One tradition we had was everyone that set foot on the place had to sign the door. We all signed one last time yesterday and took pictures of the door as many people joined in our fun, some still alive and some have moved on to greener pastures. I'm not a writer by any means but before I signed, a little poem came to me and that was my final mark before leaving:

    Memories of Uvalde

    We've been here 20+ years,
Lots of blood, sweat and tears
    And many, many beers!

    A couple of deer,
    A couple of dogs,
    A couple of kids,
Hell even a couple of wives,
But it was the time of our lives!!

    Adios!

            Wow....I feel it bro.
My dad bought a place about 8 years ago. Raising my sons there too....I can relate to the feelings you must be dealing with.

I hope the proceeds allow many new memories & adventures.

Very moving. I remember when our family sold our camp house on one of my favorite lakes. Lots of great memories there with family and friends.

I have kept up with the camp house through the years. It was destroyed a coupe of years ago when the Mississippi River flooded. I was saddened, just as if I still had ownership in the place.

A couple of reasons. A mine is moving in next to us and they offered more money than we ever thought we would get for it. That and Biden's border policy. We have had several fences cut and we no longer feel like we could let the kids sit in the deer stands by themselves, etc. so we took this opportunity to leave and get something closer to home. Once we close on the new place I'll start another thread for that.

Thanks. We feel like the new place will be an upgrade in many ways: slightly more acreage, closer to home and overall just a pretty piece of property. It won't be the same but we will for sure make more memories and have many more adventures.

It is crazy how attached you can become to a piece of dirt. I truly feel like a part of me has died but I also know a new part will grow and prosper. This weekend was tough but there are many great times to come.

Should have taken the door. . This is one thing I never worry about, my dad would sell us before he sold land. But I do understand the reasons behind y’alls sell.

Bet the trash piles would share some memories. LOL GL in the future hunts.

We really thought about it. We plan to frame the pictures and hang them up at the new place. We took quite a few things with us to help bring the memories with us and start on the new place.

Best of luck to you and family with the new place and closing the chapters on the old one.

Can certainly relate to what you’re going through. I’m selling off properties for commercial development. I expected that selling one place in particular would be a little hard. Just signing the paperwork for it was far more emotional than I ever thought it would be. Was glad to get it over with though and move on. All the memories began firing off in my head over the past few weeks.

Pretty cool. I sold our place this past spring after having it 10 years. We made a lot of memories there also. The hardest part was putting it on the market. I had everyone sign our book whenever they came out. It was a nice journal of the memories.
