Usually all stock type pellets mixed with some grain and crushed corn all mixed with molasses. Usually for Horses, cows, goats etc but everything likes it, especially pigs.

You gave me an idea, in case we have a severe freeze again. I tried to feed my tame "yard deer" some alfalfa, but they didn't know what it was. I put shelled corn on top of it to kind of encourage them to eat it. I think next time I will just put out some sweet horse feed for them.

been using a similar setup for years.
Great setup with the rain catch.
I always had trouble with coons crapping on the feed with trough feeders.

Wouldn’t a deer block be the same thing ?

I'm sure the raccoons love it as much as deer and will be laying in it!
What about the pigs? Do they try and get in it?

I see that Tractor Supply carries the same brand of sweet feed in small pellets and "textured" do deer prefer one over the other?

Great thread! What a great idea, I picked up the wood today to start building a trough. I can't wait to get it built and fill it up. Thanks for sharing.

The purple bag of 12% Producers pride is what I've mainly been using the last few years. I don't notice any difference in them hitting the pellets vs the other that I buy from the feed store occasionally. A buddy that consistently kills big bucks in East TX turned me on to his "secret" a few years back and it has drastically improved my mature buck sightings at feeder areas for me. Buck that wouldn't come near a corn feeder hit this stuff like clockwork every day.

                            My coons would love that.
