What’s wrong with this Oak Tree?

Buddy of mine noticed one of the trees in his yard has turned brown and losing its leaves. Trying to figure out what happened to it. He noticed these holes in it.

Oak wilt and it will likely kill every oak in the area
It spreads via the root system so unless you root block every tree then it’s going to knock out every oak within close proximity
You can try to treat it but I wouldn’t hold out much hope, that particular tree is gone

Dang I pray oak wilt and those stupid beetles aren’t in your area
“ Sap-feeding beetles (Nitidulidae) are the most common insects that carry and spread this disease, but bark beetles (Scolytidae) may also be carriers. They feed on spore mats that form between the bark and the wood of the oak, and carry oak wilt spores to wounds on uninfected trees.”
