    Sika Hunting advice

Just got back from the hunting property in Mills county and got some pretty decent Pictures of a Sika Buck that has been hanging around mainly at night.

I've never hunted sika (or anything else exotic for that matter) since they've never shown up on our property but I'm curious if anyone has some tips/advice on what to do to keep it around long enough for me to get a shot at it before the neighbors.

Any Tactics, Attractants, etc. would be greatly appreciated!!

Man, I bought a sika call a couple of years ago……had to drink a bottle of whiskey to figure out how to use it though. Lol. If I can find it I’ll let you know what brand it is.

If he showed up at a feeder, just keep doing what you have been doing. If he only shows up at night , shorten the evening feed time or eliminate it all together to get him to coming in during daylight.. Put out some Alfalfa in the morning, then pick it up at night

Thanks for the info, right now I just have a couple corn feeders running, I'll try out the alfalfa though, going to be putting some more cottonseed out in a bit too, so I'll see what he prefers

If it takes a bottle to figure it out, maybe two should be enough to master it right?!? haha

Lol yes it does!! Also, I know every time our bucks came out they really liked the alfalfa we put out for the axis. Pretty much all deer like alfalfa. Pigs just roll around in it.

My advice just keep doing what you are doing, adding something they are not use to may cause them to change or leave. They rut early late sept and oct. So go after him early he may leave looking for girls in sept. So since you can hunt exotics year around. Start soon.

You can also hunt him at night. No need to wait until later.

I hunt in Mills county (near Star) and we had a random Sika buck show up on 8/19. I wonder if they got loose from somewhere

Imitate the sounds of the elk's smaller cousin with our higher pitched sika deer call. Durable and easy to use, this reel has an all wood construction.

Here’s your call, I think they used them on an episode or two of meateater

The Sika Reel call posted above is great. Same as the elk reel version. They are great cow calls for elk, sika and axis. The only bad thing about them is the rubber band that holds it all together can get knocked off if you're not careful. Also, they don't have any kind of lanyard. I drill a small pilot hole in the edge of the wood and screw in a little eye screw to attach some paracord to for a lanyard to keep it around my neck.
