Guides want knockdown. Break them down so they don’t get to the thick brush. They don’t really bleed much. They certainly aren’t Bullet proof. But can absorb some serious lead. 308 will work. Lots die at night with thermals and a 6.8 SPC. But they shoot them in the neck. If the option to go bigger is there it’s recommended. But not absolutely necessary. It’s impressive how tough they are.

On the youth hunt last year one of the other hunters took a bull with a 308 AR to the chest with a frontal shot. It dropped as expected. I made the mistake of switching out my son's 308 he practices heavily with for my 300 WSM because I read all the need a big gun talk. I'll always regret that lesson learned.
