Help! Skunk in a dog proof!

I would love to hear your strategy

Very slowly approach the skunk holding an old blanket in front of you. The slower the better.

Drape the blanket over the skunk, follow up the chain and compress the springs of the trap releasing the animal.

Now the skunk is loose and you can quickly grab an edge of the blanket and dash far enough away that you can't get sprayed. The skunk will be all off balance as you pull the blanket off and will not spray. If you freeze and do not move it will soon walk away.

Also, twice in my life I have released skunks just by talking to them, approaching very slowly without a blanket and was able to release them.

Skunks are very inquisitive and unless you startle them you would be surprised how much you can do.


Similar strategy for one in a humane trap. Cover with blanket (or tarp), cover trap.

Relocate to desired spot.

Open door and prop open with a dalrod. Wait for skunk to amble out.

I have done this with one in a live trap , it never sprayed at all .

Get a frind that had C19 to remove it thy say most cant taste or smell

I've released many, many skunks alive and never been sprayed. All you do is just approach the trap slowly and calmly, give him time to get used to you being there, and then open the door. Never even had one raise its tail much less spray. They're not nearly as aggressive a raccoons.

Yup. We had a chicken coup they would frequently nest under, even had a couple litters. They would walk around like livestock and didn't care how close you got as long as you didn't surprise them..

We once caught someone at a lesser-used gate to our property, they had a sheet-covered trap with them and we’re scratching their heads trying to figure out how to release a skunk without getting separated (City Folk—had watched a YouTube video to learn how to catch a skunk but, wonder of wonders!—the video failed to mention anything about releasing the skunk!). Anyway, we pulled over and pointed out that we didn’t want the skunk anymore than they did!

The point of my comments is that you should make sure you know (in advance) that you are releasing the skunk only where you have permission to do so.

Ok... So what I did... Shot it in the lungs with a 22... Went inside and had coffee

Came back out... It hadn't SPRAYED... But wasn't without smell. Took it out of trap and into the bush. Really wasn't bad

I have caught literally hundreds of coons in Dukes cuffs and never caught a skunk. Always use the cheap DRIED cat food as bait... Never actually caught any other animal except coons using it for bait.

Sardines or that gooey wet cat food is a sure bet for a possum tho. Marshmallows, more ants than coons...
