    Collectible oddities

Been going through some old things or interests of mine to see if I can finally pick them up or just see if they're available anymore.

Gulag Archipelago was difficult to find in all 3 volumes in english when I wanted it. was broke, working and doing college. Complete sets were about 100 bucks. The other day looked it up.... complete set is 300-1k. Of course mostly due to hardback being rare now and most people selling only first editions. 1k being all first edition books.

Was later talking to my son about his toys and cars, etc. Remembered these rc cars you could modify, switch parts on, etc. Coulsnt remember what they were called so dug up the name. They were called xmods and were 10 bucks at radio shack. They are now 60-100+ on ebay and discontinued.

What other odds and ends have you found being collectible later? Sure wish I had kept those 10 dollar rc cars lol.

I don't know, but this thread reminds me of the time I unknowingly caught and ate the Lake Travis record Guadalupe bass.

We've all got plenty of "should have" back there.

I sold some old Legos at a garage sale once and 2 people got in a bidding war over the box. I thought they were going to get into a fight at one point. I ended up keeping them when the offer got up to $200. I originally had a $3 price on the box.

$200 for Legos? Wow! I never would have guessed, that's crazy, but we live in a crazy world.

Some of the metal lunch boxes with cartoon characters on them are worth pretty good money.

I get a stomach ache when I start thinking about the stuff I should have kept from my childhood.

I get one thinking about the trucks I should have held onto for this year's prices. Lol

Like trading your Topps Mickey Mantle card in '52 for a piece of Bazooka gum. Sure seemed like a good trade at the time.

My little boy (6) is into Pokémon cards. The wife’s cousin sent him a box full of cards a couple of weeks ago and my little boy and wife started looking up the prices….there were several cards worth $100+ in that box.

I’m somewhat of a minimalist, so I don’t really fret over things I got rid of back then. I can’t stand keeping old stuff around that we just don’t use. I’d rather not have something worth $60 than to have to lug it around when we move or store it somewhere.

$200 for a box of Legos and you didn't sell them?! What did you end up doing with them?

When I read the title to the thread, the first thing I thought about was my woody woodpecker lunch box from about 1975.

LOL. I've been looking for them every since I typed that this morning. Missing a set of Hot wheels also. Knowing my luck, my wife probably donated them.
