Looked pretty consistent with the last few years in Clay County right now. Seen the usual amount flying but nothing that has got me too excited lol

this will be a couple of "cool" fronts we've had already by mid-august. not sure its cool enough to push birds down, but it sure can't hurt...

We are just outside of Rockwall and the power lines behind the house are usually covered in the evenings this time of year. Seeing very few these days and about half of those are collared.

Yeah, there are several stretches of power lines I pass on my commute from Aledo to west Ft Worth that are usually sagging with doves this time of year. I have not seen that as of yet. Reports are that the dove fields I get to hunt around Abilene look better than they ever have as far as sunflowers - hopefully the birds will show up.

I can validate there is plenty of food. Just not many birds to eat it.

FWIW, this comment is from the TPWD:

“Texas had above average mourning dove production early in the spring with continued good production where precipitation occurred through the spring and summer,” said Shaun Oldenburger, TPWD Dove Program Leader. “Good croton, sunflower, ragweed, and other highly-selected dove foods were found statewide this year. Where good water conditions and timing of seeding in these plants coincide, hunters should find good hunting in September for mourning doves.”
