Dad’s Kenner Rebuild thread

My pops and I are on halves with the same hull/color in 1996 model. Blew motor the same 88 motor in 2009 and put on 115 Mercury and she still fishes great. We have since added a 2018 Majek Extreme to the arsenal. My dream is to one day completely refinish her (strip our green carpets. I cannot see me ever selling her.

Pulled the plugs and put a fresh set it..


then tested a paint removal disk… “it’ll buff out”

Had to run up to lavernia to meet dad with some tools. Will pickup steering cable and paint this afternoon, hopefully will get it ground down tonight!

You need to teach that new Captain to look toward the front of the boat! He’s looking for your socket?

No pictures, but the steering is done and new helm and steering wheel mounted
Throttle and shift controls are done.
Motor rolled over and fired with some starter fluid… we will definitely need new fuel lines.
New tires installed


Have the wiring harness to clean up/figure out and lights/ switches to install

Gas lines to install

Need to finish buffing deck, and paint entire boat.

Install bilge pump

Got a little help while prepping for paint…
The entire tub is sanded internally, but I’m waiting on the Paint for the inside. So we decided to paint the outside today.


Here is the new color scheme




I also got the lower unit/water pump rebuilt and the oil changed out. Will pull the new fuel line and work on getting it running tomorrow!

I had that exact boat with a 225 Honda on it. I loved that thing.

Put a new ignition switch in, got the oil changed in the lower unit.

Had to go pick the kids up from school and it then rained all evening hallelujah!

Will get back to it Thursday or Friday…


I’m worried it’s not shifting in and out of gear.. like the lower unit is not shifting up internally. Can’t pull the shift rod up or down…. Will see if running the motor and letting it get warm helps.
