    Coleman Lantern Rebuild

I’d like to start by saying how much I have enjoyed the lantern threads on here over the years. It so happens that I had this lantern fall in my lap when a new found friend up here in Indiana asked if I like Coleman lanterns? I said “who doesn’t” and next thing you know he said “take that old one over there if you want it”.
I grew up camping with my parents in many remote campgrounds and learned at a young age the use as well as the awe of a lantern in the woods. I also think they are great for tracking. I’m still not sure what kind of work this one needs but thought I’d share it, as I remember some here have said the 220’s are great lanterns. If anyone knows where I might be able to get O-rings and other parts please let me know.

    Thanks

What’s the date on the bottom?

No O-rings needed. Pull the plunger out, if the cup is leather, oil it and put it back in... if rubber, oil it. Look in the tube for rust.

Does it have fuel in it??

If so, pour some out and if clear, try to pump it up and see if’n it holds pressure. If so, light it up and run for awhile.

Only place it will lose pressure is the fuel cap, and the pump... unless the check valve is bad. All can be replaced easily.

And, put some mantles on it.

After getting the light to reflect off the bottom the bottom line is the only with numbers. It reads 9 Model 220F 228F 65.
        So I’m guessing 1965?
It has little fuel in it I’ll check the rest tomorrow

I’m going to have to find a place here that has string mantles or order some but was planning to tomorrow

The date is stamped on the bottom of the tank. Will look like,

            02 76
            Feb-1976
