    What is this fruit…???

My cousin found these inside a mesquite bush and said they tasted sweet and resembled a persimmon. Medium size seeds. Very fleshy/juicy

Looks like balsam gourd but I didn't think they are edible. They grow on a spindly vine that climbs other trees

Jerp is right. Also known as Snake Apple. Deer like em but not recommended for human consumption. https://www.wildflower.org/plants/re...?id_plant=IBLI

We saw some this past weekend as well. Same deal....thorny vine growing up in a mesquite. I don't remember seeing them before, but my plant ID app said the same thing. Balsam gourd.
