Fall 2021 AZ Draw

Just found out the credit card has been hit by AZGFD and I will be hunting AZ this year. In a week or so we should find out which unit.

This couldn't have come at a better time for me. I decided not to renew my TX lease this year and had absolutely zero hunts planned this fall. Now I get to hunt with my brother for a couple of weeks this fall.

Anyone else hunting AZ this fall?

My brother and I were drawn for the first archery hunt in the Kaibab this year, Unit 12A/12B. Season is August 20 - September 9. Started slinging arrows this weekend to sharpen up to be hunt ready.

I have hunted 12A before without success, but hopefully this year will be different. Being this early, I expect the bucks to still be in velvet. I think it would be cool to have 170 inch velvet muley on the wall.

From what I understand, the Kaibab has been shut down due to fire danger - shut down long enough that someone might have cameras still in the field It did open back up to the public in the last week or so. They have had some good rains up there this year too, so I am hoping that reduced human pressure and decent range conditions equals success.

3 years...

We started applying in 2015 when my brother moved to AZ. That year we applied separately and he was drawn, I was not. It was archery for this same unit, but it was a September hunt.

Later found out we should be on same application, that way the whole party gets drawn. Since then, we were drawn in 2018 and here again in 2021.

Having decent luck with the mule deer, but I can't seem to get a sniff on the elk draw though!

We are not using an outfitter/guide, but my brother has a couple of coworkers and a neighbor that used to guide the unit, and they are sharing some info. With that and what we learned last time, I think we can get on some deer.

Congrats on the tag! Definitely drew it before you were "supposed to", which makes it even sweeter! Good luck to yall.
