    Trap question for yall

What type of kill traps or spring tension traps do y’all have for your collection of essentials for SHTF? Do you Bush crafters prefer mechanical traps or traditional snares?
Additionally, how would/do you prevent deer from stepping in mechanical traps? Thanks

    What is your target animal(s)?

For a survival type situation I'd want snares. They're lighter to carry a bunch of them.

I'd also want to catch deer in that situation though too.

The way jaw traps are designed, hoofed animals can pull their feet out. Maybe not a fawn, but most deer will be able to get away.
For sustainance, snares work better. Easier to carry and set. Not discriminatory as to what they catch, and are very easy to build

Set foot traps a foot or so slightly off the trail with bait to avoid deer. I've caught coons, possums, buzzards, foxes, coyotes, and bobcats in mb550s. I moved up to 650s to try to only hit coyotes. The mb450 would probably be perfect for anything that comes by.

For survival, I'd want a bunch of snares including a couple dozen heavy duty hog snares. Also some z-trap dog proof coon traps. I stopped using them because they were catching more squirrels and possums than they were coons.

Sorry Jes. Rabbits and squirrels. Would be nice to have an all around trap but the snares sound like the way to go.
