Mason and Caleb have both been asking to go fishing for several weeks. With Shannon working at the store on Saturday and Easter the following day, we decided to make the trek to “The Lucky Spot” – a catfish farm located on the outskirts of Crosby. This place is close to home, you are almost guaranteed to catch something and the boys just enjoy going and yanking some cats out of the water. Joining us would be one of Caleb’s buddies along with Casey Morris and his son Dane.
We loaded up the family-truckster with our poles, tackle, snacks and drinks and arrived at the fishing hole around 10:30. Several families were already there, but we had one of the ponds all to ourselves. Mason was the first to land one and Caleb was determined to be next.

Here is a shot of Casey giving a little fatherly advice to Dane.

He must have taken the advice to heart as he yanked his share of perch out the ponds. He also landed a catfish before the day was done.

I am somewhat disappointed in myself as I did not capture nearly the images I should have. Including…Casey baiting Dane’s hook while something takes his bait AND pole into the water. He is just seconds too late, but the rod and reel WITH FISH ATTACHED is floating. We look at each other, laugh and wonder “What now?!” I manage to cast over the pole, hook it, bring it to shore and Casey gets a catfish – it was quite hilarious. All in all, we left with 16 pounds of catfish and everyone – except Caleb – put something on the stringer.
Fast forward to Saturday evening. Casey and his family join my crew for fish, puppies, slaw, tots, Wii, etc. It was a good time with good friends and I can’t wait to do it again.

Next time, I will have to take more photos. Hopefully Casey will post some more quality pixels.
