    .223's

Fixin' to round me up a cheap critter getter to keep in the truck and was wondering if anyone knew anything about those Stevens 200 bolt actions that Savage puts out. Just trying to find a cheap bolt gun in .223. I was hoping Mossberg would go ahead and make one in that ATR but no luck yet. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks

I prefer the AR15 but you said cheap and the two words AR15 and Cheap don't get along.

I then have a Youth Model Rossi Single Shot .223 that is very accurate. I think NEF makes one similar. These are single shot thought.

I don't have any input on the specific rifle that you inquire about. However my experience with SAVAGE rifles has been quite good. I own two one is a 110 in .270 that shoots 1/4 inch groups @ 100 and my newest .300 RUM 116 which has not been shot yet.

Good luck on finding the right one.

For a truck gun a NEF handi-rifle cant be beat. It is very accurate and short enough to move around with easily.

I agree about the HandiRifle. Small and will fit in the truck easily.

Plus you can get them cheap cheap

as previously noted...a CZ is very reasonable and nice shooting. Can't go wrong there. I have a .22 Hornet CZ and it drives tacks @ 100 yds.

I've got a ruger Mark II in .223 . I had to float the barrel to get it to pattern, but it shoots great now. ( last spring I shot the head off of 3 gobblers and head shot a hog and a coyote. 5 for 5

Also, A good friend of mine has a CZ in 222 that shoots great right out of the box.

I third those CZ or the handi Rifle, and the handi you can buy different barrells for if you want to go to a larger calliber.

the new england firearms are a great cheap gun. I know academy has a scoped unit for around 175-200. Great gun if you are just looking for something functional. Other than that if you want a bolt action you are gonna spend at least 400 for just a rifle.

Thanks. I've heard Sportsmans Warehouse had some good gun prices, haven't gotten up there yet. I did find one of the Stevens for $306 here in town at our hardware store....thought that was pretty good.

Oh, and for whoever was looking for a single shot...I agree as well. They are great guns. I'm on my third one and they've all been tack drivers. ;-)

                          Thanks ya'll.

They aren't new england firearms anymore, H&R bought them out, but they are a great cheap gun, I just bought a .223 model with the bull barrell, crazy accurate. I think they still have a .223 and a .204 ruger here at praco.
