If you go by the ten Texas ecosystems and not just where somebody decided to build a highway, I'd go with the following:

Piney Woods = East Texas Toothless Hillbilly Country
Gulf Prairies and Marshes = Coastal Bend Mosquito Factory
Post Oak Savannah and Blackland Prairie = East Texas with Full Set of Teeth Country
Cross Timbers and Prairies = Armpit of Texas and Home to Desperate Cowboys Fans
South Texas Plains = South Texas / North Mexico
Edwards Plateau = Central Texas / God's Country
Rolling Plains = North Central Goatlands
High Plains and Trans-Pecos = West Texas

      Hope that clears it up.

I live in Abilene, and have called Abilene home since the 1950's. Abilene is NOT West Texas. By the map Abilene is in the western half of Texas, but West Texas starts farther west.

Texas is TOO BIG to say east and west, Texas is also considered in the minds of a lot of people like a country, most countries are usually described as multiple regions. The same should apply to Our Great State of Texas.

I can agree with that. I was born and raised in Victoria. South Texas was thought of as anything Corpus to Cotulla and south. San Antonio or borderline Central Texas/hill country.

In my opinion, this make the argument for IH 35 to be the eastern boundary of West Texas.
I think Hwy. 277 might be a more accurate definition of the eastern boundary of West Texas.
When I lived in Madisonville, the old timers said that you didn't get into East Texas until you crossed the Trinity River.

Horse****. They were all high on coke in the 80’s. 10 miles SW of Eden is too **** close to Old Mexico.

Roughly east of 45 is east Texas and west of 35 is west Texas
