    Heat Inside Metal Building

We are planning an outdoor kitchen area and thinking of having a metal building built rather than building it out of wood. A neighbor mentioned that a metal building with sub 12' eves would be prohibitively hot, even with large door openings and that a wooden structure with a composition roof would be cooler. Anyone have experience? My shop has 14' eves and it is tolerable in the summer but that only serves to prove his theory at this point.

I have a 30’x50’ with 14’ walls. All metal construction and uninsulated, Mueller building. 12’x12’ doors on each end.

It’s hot in the Summer with the doors closed, but with a barrel fan it’s not that bad. Once you get the doors open it’s really not bad at all.

our place at the lake is 30x40 with three 12 foot roll up doors and 16' eaves. We keep fans rolling inside when we are up there and its cooler inside the shop than outside in the sun for sure.

      no insulation.

Ive got a 30x40 shop with 12 foot eves and had it sprayed with closed cell foam, 1 inch on the walls and 2 inches on the ceiling. It is typically 15 degrees cooler in the summer and about 15 degrees warmer in the winter. If that's a possibility, think about going that route. just spraying the ceiling would probably make a big difference.

The short answer is yes a metal building/roof is going to be hotter than a wood building/composition roof on sub 12’ ceilings.

If you go metal spray it like mentioned above. Not only will it reduce heat but also condensation

Metal with foam gets my vote. The one thing that has always concerned me is for some reason trying to get a roofing panel back off. Has anyone tried tyvek before sheeting?

We had a 40x60 with 14' eave height. Insulated with white batt material. Surprisingly, that thing wasn't that bad all in the summer with the 12' roll up doors open on both ends. I'd almost even call it comfortable in there on a 100 degree day with some fans moving air.
