Data recovery from smashed Iphone, need help.

I have an Iphone that is broken, including the USB port no longer being there. There are some very important pics on there that were never backed up and am looking at data recovery specialists to recover the data. Does any one here have any experience with doing that? It appears it will cost a pretty penny but getting back the pics from my son's first 10 months of life will be worth it. I appreciate any recommendations and advice pertinent to the issue at hand. Thank you.

My boss works on them
He told me that the only way that it may work is to remove the motherboard and hope that it is not damaged. He's willing to give it a shot if you want to mail it over

No Icloud since it is not free is what I was told by the wife, it is her phone. I have mentioned backing up her pics a few times and here we are.
