Midas or Brake Plus brake jobs.

I was wondering if anyone really ever gets out of there for the advertised $89.99. My brakes just started squeaking and I'm thinking of taking my truck to them. The only problem is that I am working seven days a week right now so my wife will have to take the truck. I don't want them telling her that the truck needs rotors and a bunch of other crap and come to us with a $500 bill. I usually do the brakes my self but if you can truly get a brake job for under $100 it's not worth my time to do it.

If it's going to cost me a bunch I'll take a day off and do it myself.

Just advise her to stick to her guns. They'll try to tell her she needs rotors. They'll try to sell her upgraded brake pads (not always a bad idea), or something else like that. Get her to clarify before they start about their "free inspection". If they say the rotors are bad then tell them thanks for the free inspection and have them put it back together and drive it home. (not that I would know about $500 brake jobs when the wife takes in the vehicle!)

Not sure what kind of rig you drive, or how hard you drive it. But I've started spending twice as much for brake pads from the manufacturer (original equipment), and I get at least twice the mileage. Brakes are one of the few things that are still so easy, I do'em myself. Call the dealership and see what they charge. If it's not much more I'd go that rout and you won't have to do it again for a long time.

Ugh, Just Brakes gave me a really great price on a brake job but then they overtightened my truck's lugs and broke the studs. It cost us a bunch of money to have that fixed at another mechanic.

Call Fast Brake here in Austin, they come to your work and do the job in the parking lot. Did I mention its owned by a fellow TBHer.

I would never go back to Midas again. Last year I called about getting my rear differential fluid changed and they quoted me 89.00. So I took my truck in and after draining the fluid they came out and said due to the fact that I have a limited slip it would run more. My response back to them was, I told you that when I called up for the price quote. They said it would be just a few dollars more and I said okay, my mistake. When I got the bill it was 189.00, they were charging me over 20.00 a pint for the fluid which I know I could buy for around 4-6 dollars a pint. The ironic part was the whole time I was waiting the manager was telling me how he quit his last job because they forced him to mark up the parts too much and how honest of a person he was. I would never ever go back to Midas!!!!

              Just Brakes $99 special...hardly!

Last year took my Nissan Frontier to Just Brakes for their advertised special of $99. After it was all said and done the price was $ 179. I emailed their corporate HQ and complained about false advertising. Didn't get me anywhere but I did recieve a call back and an explanation. If you read closely the advertised special EXCLUDES LIGHT TRUCKS. Hell everybody drives a truck in Texas. So beware!

I took my '03 nissan frontier to Just Brakes last July and I got disc pads, brakes shoes, drums, and machine work for 99.88 parts + labor. (I've got the bill right infront of me.)

What sucked was having to spend about a grand several months later to repair the damage that Just Brakes caused.

                  Sika, how many studs broke?

Do you remember the great water buffalo fiasco of 2006?
Parts and labor for 8 studs on my 1 ton Ford was less than $100 ... and that was out in the middle of nowhere at some mom and pop roadside repair place.

DO NOT USE JUST BRAKES...I was in there one time and while waiting for them to fix my truck a lady that had came in needed new pads. They took her brakes apart and told her she had huge problems and legally could not let her leave until the repairs were done because her car was a safety hazard. It was a pretty big scene, but I think they put it back together for her. A

I took my wifes truck to Just Brakes and dropped it off for a brake job, about a hour goes by and they call and tell me, Sir we can replace the brakes if you want but they still have alot of life left in em. I said ok, hold off. Picked my wifes truck up and brought the guy a burger for being so honest. He could have easily done nothing and charged me for it. I was impressed!!

Here's a little piece of advice. All these places may be chain stores but all are staffed by individuals. They may have a corporate policy on how to do business, but in the end the individual staff makes the decisions. What I am getting at is that you could take your vehicle into thee different shops under the same name and get three different results.

Kevin, there was a pretty big work order and I don't remember what all was involved and I can't find my copy right now.
A few months after my routine brake work from Just Brakes, I started to notice some strange noises while braking. Then the brake light came on.

I do mine myself. I took mine in to a Just Brakes a few years back and they tried to tell me I needed new rotors and callipers...2001 F150 supercrew 4x4 with 35K on it... I went home did it myself for $75 for ceramic pads at autozone and rotors turned at oriely's for $7 each. The pads had a life time warrenty for free replacements and it only takes about 30 minutes to swap all four corners out. I also got 45K out of that set and then 40K out of the second set.
