Boat Trailer Modification : Adding a swing away tongue

Just wondering if anyone has modified their boat trailer to add a swing away tongue. If so, did you go with the bolt on or the welded piece. My trailer is galvanized, so I dont think I want to go with the weld on hitch, but you never know. Just seeing what others have done and which brand of tongue that you bought or recommend. There are not too many brands out there so any help or input is appreciated.

Added a bolt on on my trailer. Bought it online from etrailer.com
It was easy to install, good directions.
No pics of it and boat is stored too far away to get some. sorry.

How much space does it save you when you swing away the tongue? I am looking at etrailer as well, but it would not get to me until June 24th. I need it before then. Other retailers are out of stock of the 3x5.

It looks easy enough to install.

I installed quite a few at the dealership. It all depends on how the trailer is set up if it’s worth it. On some trailers the jack placement sucks. If you post a picture of the front of your trailer I can get more detailed.

You can always move the jack to one of the sides if you need to. I was looking at this the other day for my ranger. Looks like I can save about 14”. Which is about perfect. Only thing I don’t like is that means doing a flex hose on the trailer brakes. No idea why that bothers me. Every car in the world has flexible brake lines and they are fine.

By the way. Trying to turn a dual axle trailer a little sideways in the garage to get the tongue to fit sucks. And I JUST sold my wheel skates when we sold our house.

Bolt on is fine, easy job in the driveway. You can move the jack if needed.

I moved my jack and spare wheel attachment. When it was "swung'' open it saved me about 24" to 26".
It's easy to put on with just a drill and angle grinder.

Here are pics of my hitch. I plan to relocate the jack.

Unless you can move the bow stop back too it's not going to save you a whole ton. Maybe a foot, but if that's all you need go for it.

Depending on the weight of the boat the Jack needs to stay centerline. The trailer will twist. I know this isn’t the case on every boat. I have done it 50 plus times.

Judging by the zinc coupler, I would guess its a 3.5k-5k# at most rated coupler. So there is a good chance he can probaly get away with it being off center. Ive used Fulton's 5k Break away tongues on previous trailers and they work well. I always weld them on, but most of mine are new constructed trailers. Reese Makes a zinc bolt on, but I've never used it. If it were my personal trailer, I'd cut the tongue, weld on a fulton then use a cold galv spray.
