    Peacock bass in Miami

I’m going to drag the boat to South Florida to fish for snook, but will also give peacocks a shot in Miami. Anyone have any experience doing this? Looking for places to launch more than anything. The canal system is extensive and has a lot of locks. I need places to launch where I can travel the greatest distances possible to cover a lot of ground.

Not much help for info but I’m working in west palm beach. Let me know if you need someone to tag along.

Peacocks seem to be able to get caught in all the canals and hoa ponds according to youtube.

I fished for them a few years ago with Alan Zarembe(spelling)?? We launched out of a public park and fished the canals along the airport runways. I caught a bunch and had a blast.

Yes to the area around MIA. I walked the shoreline of many ponds / lakes right across the street from the runways near office building parks and caught many.

Get on Google Earth, find that area and starting looking from there. Canal waterways open to bigger lakes and connect it all. The peacocks we caught during the early summer were all on the banks and aggressive.

Just go down alligator alley (75)and find a landing.

You can also go off of 41, it’s further south.

Generally the further south and the hotter it is, the better.

I can catch peacocks within ten miles of where I live in cape coral

Thank for all the responses. I have two ramps located. One is on 41 and another is 15 miles south of downtown. I know these canals are all connected, but locks separate them in some places.
From what I have read, the airport lakes have a lot of fish in the 1-3lb range. I want to slip into some hard to reach canals with some 3-5lb fish. I will hit Lake Ida as well.
My boy has my backseat, but if he has to come home early or miss a day, I’ll give you a shout Bh liberty.

These were caught on the canal just west of the casino in homestead.

I cant believe this thread popped up today.
I will be there the last week of May for a yacht party. I know I will get bored after 4 days of hanging out doing stuff with my girls and was considering booking a fishing trip for peacocks!
Keep it rolling as we will be staying at the Cadillac Beach Club and will need a guide.

Peacock bass are on my bucket list. I know i will never fish for them in the Amazon, but Florida isn't that far away.

Peacocks are a fun fish to catch but so are snakeheads and Clown Knife fish. The Clowns are thicker up towards Pompano Beach into Palm beach.

Some of the guides run invasive "grand slam" trips for Clowns, Snakeheads and Peacocks.

Another, smaller but hard fighting fish is the Mayan Cichlid. All of them are a great time on fly.

Where are you going to snook fish? Flats or deep water? I guided out of Flamingo for 45 years, PM me if you need any help

Are the peacocks good to eat? I here the snakeheads are really good. Wanna get down there one day and fish for some.

It would’ve never crossed my mind to eat a snake head.
