I posted that I had recently purchased a Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter 17 Hornet on another thread and at the time I had not received it. I was concerned as several comments were posted about this particular model having issues on ejection. I shot it this weekend and thought I would share my experience with it.
I bought the gun several weeks ago from an online seller named Hinterland located in Houston. it took about 8 days to get it in. I had $200 in Academy gift cards I used for a scope and as you know the selection is not very good right now. I ended up with a Burris Drop Tine 4.5-14X42, it probably would not have been what I would have picked out but after shooting it I like. I paid $569.99 for the rifle and $249.99 for the scope plus taxes and transfer fee.
After two shots at 50 yards I moved to 100yds and dialed it in. My last 3 shot group was about 3/4" high and dime sized shooting from a bag. I used it this weekend and head shot 11 coons from distances of 50 - 130 yards. I was very pleased with the performance of the rifle. I did not experience the ejection issue others have had. The issue I had was with chambering a round. When the rifle was sitting in a shooting bag with pressure on the magazine it would sometimes not feed properly, I did not have the issue when the gun was not sitting in a shooting bag. I shot about 30 rounds in total this weekend and I am very pleased so far and hope it does not develop the ejections issue.
