Get a nice kayak that you can sit on top of the water. It’s fun but it’s kinda a lot of work for only being able to paddle around so far.

Thanks for the tips guys. I always bowhunted. Never really fished much. When I did I hated fishing on the shore all the time. I thought a kayak would be a cheap easy way to get to a lot more areas and be fun at the same time.

Dont think I would fish enough to warrant buying a boat.

I will check out the videos when I have time

Man there is probably a whole world of things out there ready for you to discover then. Turn off you VHS player and get out there Rick!

Its a blast...I haven't in a few years and have been meaning to get back at it. My Jackson Big Rig sits idle longing for the water

Interesting. I been thinking about doing this. What do you use for floats once out? Have an anchor tied to the trap?

Do you have a better catch rate in the surf as compared in the bay?

Not sure, we are crabbing in the Gulf. But the jury is still out on if the catch is better past the break or 100 yards out. I think the bait has a lot to do with it, and what I prefer is the shrimp troll by-catch. Like the black drum or reds that wash ashore. Just be careful if you have a weak stomach, and use that old bow saw to cut a nice chunk for the bait well.

We are crabbing in the gulf, but we really wait for 1 foot seas or less. We don't use anchors because we set the traps past the low tide break, so far we haven't had any traps wash up. I have noticed others that set them in the break would use re-bar to hold them without issue.

Do a search in the Campfire on "Kayak Fishing".

                          You will find multiple threads.

One of the fastest growing sports. I got into it last year and fish a lot of kayak bass tournaments. I have one this weekend as a matter of fact.

Kayak fishing is great. been doing it for years. The biggest advise I could give is buy once
cry once. I have seen a lot of people buy a kayak from Wal-Mart and lose interest because they are in an unstable kayak. also one you get a kayak take it fishing before you spend alot of money in accessories. you will find that you dont need alot of that stuff.

One of the admins on here (Michael I think) has posted up some pretty good videos providing tips for kayaking that are very helpful if you want to give it a try. I don’t go near as much as I would like, but I’ve got several kayak places (Texas rivers) on my bucket list.
