Belton Lake/Stillhouse No Boat Fishing Spots?

Since I'm restricted from shooting my bow or guns right now, I've got a slight fishing obsession going on. The problem is, I don't have access to a boat. Does anyone know any good areas on Belton Lake or Stillhouse where I could go throw a line from shore and have a chance snagging some decent fish? I'm not looking for monsters, just want to have some fun and bring home some dinner. I'd also be open to other water options (river?), but those were the 2 main areas I knew right off.

if you like catfish through some corn in a 5 gallon bucket with about a inch or so of water put the lid on and set it in the sun... catfish bait in about 3 days just find a decent bank and use anything including the corn for bait

      Arrowhead Point

We would always have luck around Arrowhead point boat ramp. Its on the way to temple lake park. Stay on West Adams (past woodland trails Neighborhood) for about a mile and Turn left on Arrowhead Pt. Road and go down to the boat ramp. You can park at the boat ramp and bike around the park and fish around the road. We've always caught bass, and catfish, Small mouth around Arrowhead point. There are also lots of catfish in nolan creek (downtown), just drifting a nightcrawler under a bobber. We caught some monster bass out of the ponds at Wildflower CC (they were closed on Mondays) also Sammons park has some nice fish as well. Jason Slocum

Will they let you fish at Wildflower? My son is playing Wildflower in the Starburst golf tournament in June.

          Fishing

They catch a lot of fish under the long bridge on 36.I have property there and it's rare that I don't see people fishing.

I went out to Arrowhead tonight for a few minutes. I used to hang out there a lot back in college, but never fished it much then. I had the kids and my wife with me, so I couldn't really fish too seriously. What kind of lure did you use when you fished there?

I'll have to look into Sammons, I think they shut down fishing out there, but I could be wrong. I've never even known Wildflower had ponds, so I'll be all over that if I can get out there.

            Thanks!

              Belton fishing...

All this was probably 15 years ago, but I'll give some details...

We always caught bass under the boat ramp dock, or bouncing jigs along the rocks/rip rap and off the sides of the boat ramp. We would catch crayfish under the rocks and Carolina rig them and fish them on the boat ramp that's under water. We also fished crankbaits/topwaters around the ramp for big small mouth/hybrids/white bass. When the whites are schooling you can catch them on spoons, rattle traps, slabs spoons, and topwaters. As kids we would use little white grubs 1/16 or 1/32 oz jig heads and catch bass/perch from the rocks all day long to entertain ourselves.

Wildflower... My dad would play golf and I would walk and fish. The ponds around the 4th or 5th hole were great. I cant remember which one you could drive down stantion (sp?) road off kelgy and get to the ponds. The lower one (off of the par 3) I caught some good 5lb bass out of. We even took out john boat to the upper lake and had a great day of fishing. Hydrilla was really bad back then, and I dont know what they are like now....

The ponds north of Sunflower lane and Kelgy rd. on the back nine also produced good fish back in the day.

Sammons... They actually had a fishing docks back before they moved the club house across the pond when I fished there. There was a playground with another dock on the back nine too. If you use google maps you can see the docks... You should be able to drive to the old clubhouse and walk around and fish....

This brings back a lot of great childhood memory's for me I caught a lot of fish off of golf course ponds, and made some great memory's with my dad. I would call the golf courses and see about fishing first.... Jason Slocum

You should really try stillhouse park marina, I pre-fished all over that lake for two days preparing for a tournament last september and the ramp/marina area was the only place I found I could consistenly catch good fish. Still haven't figured out how to catch those 35 lb sacks some of those local guys do.

I haven't been back in several years, but I know that B.L.O.R.A. (Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area) used to be open to the public. I left shortly before they closed Ft. Hood to the public and am not sure if it is military only. I know that they have a fish house that lots of crappie were caught out of.

Try fishing in Franks Marine cove. You can park up top in the trailer parking and walk down to the cove. Just work your way around the cove and out to the point on main lake.
