I ask because my wife and I have been way over contributing since we got married. Turns out neither of our employers switched us from "single" to "married". Well they made that switch last year, and now we owe an insane amount of money.

I don't need to be dead nuts on like you, but plus or minus $1000 is our goal.

It was basically pure luck. Each year I bump my withholdings a little to allow for cost of living raises, OT and such. I just got lucky and hit it durn close.
